November 1st holds a special place in the heart of WMUL FM at Marshall University—it’s the day, back in 1961, that we first went on the air as an FM station, marking the beginning of our journey as a voice for the Marshall community. Over the years, WMUL has grown from a humble campus radio station into an award-winning, student-run media outlet, known for its excellence in broadcasting, sports coverage, and creative programming. As of summer 2024, the station has won 2,519 national and regional awards since 1985, the year legendary Faculty Manager Dr. Charles G. Bailey began tracking awards.
As we reflect on the incredible milestones we’ve achieved, we invite you to join us in celebrating this legacy by giving back to WMUL on this significant day. Your support will help us continue to provide students with valuable hands-on experience in media, journalism, and broadcasting, preparing them for successful careers in the industry. It will also help replenish funds that we just used to buy a new transmitter to stay on the air. So, we please need your help to restore our financial safety net!
Why give on November 1st? Because it’s more than just a date—it’s a symbol of WMUL’s enduring presence and commitment to serving the Marshall community and beyond. By donating, you will play a crucial role in sustaining the station’s operations, enhancing our technology, and empowering the next generation of media professionals.
